Normally Adjusted Punch-Drunk Love
By Victor Jugo De Naranja
You know how Adam Sandler's character in Punch-Drunk Love (2002) just spontaneously bursts into tears at seemingly random times? I resonated with that deeply. I feel like doing that all the time. I actually think this should be the "normally adjusted" response to modernity.
We've been robbed; left for dead on the spiraling highway of time. And there isn't enough water or rags to clean up the mess.
This is also probably why Jung could never bring himself to visit Rome. He knew it would ruin him to see so much beauty in such ruins. And so whatever the German word for spontaneous-tears is ought to be the proper response. ☗
