Welcome to The American Sublime.

The American Sublime is a magazine with the single aim of printing the pan-American experience.

We are interested in literary and lyrical journalism, travel writing, poetry, ranting, raving, cynicism, criticism, optimism, photography, and essays by writers and artists from across the American New World.

You can support The American Sublime by subscribing to the magazine at the bottom of this page and choosing from the paid subscription options.

Terms and Conditions

Payment to contributors is made within 90 days of acceptance. We use bank transfer, PayPal, CashApp, and Venmo.

We typically pay 10 cents per word, though for most poems we pay by the piece, which can end up being slightly more. We will write to you.

For fiction, creative nonfiction, and essays: we pay 10 cents per word.

For photography: we will write to you to negotiate agreeable compensation.

With each accepted submission, we purchase first North American serial rights and exclusive online publishing rights for six months. All other rights are reserved by the author.

If you choose to re-publish your piece, we would appreciate acknowledgment as the first market to publish your work.

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please withdraw your piece immediately if accepted elsewhere so we can remove it from our queue.

At the end of each calendar year we plan to publish the previous year’s work in a print anthology. We will ask for your permission before we do this.

We will never charge submission fees. We never charge reading fees.

We accept a very low percentage of submissions.

With time and the gathering of more resources we plan to make our contributor compensation as competitive as we can.

Submission Policy: The American Sublime will consider for publication any material that falls within the following guidelines: Material should be intelligible. Material that is libelous, vile, racist or degrading will not be published. The use of nom-de-plumes may be allowed upon request. The American Sublime reserves the right to edit material for length, grammar and spelling.
